Deputy President William Ruto has accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of using the fight against corruption to block his aspirations albeit indirectly.
Speaking in Kilifi on Saturday, Ruto said some Jubilee leaders are using lies and propaganda to target some people with an aim of blocking from ascending to power in 2022.
The DP also dismissed claims that Sh21 billion had been misappropriated in the construction of Kimwarer and Arror dams, a sharp contradiction of DCI George Kinoti’s finding, despite the latter having full confidence of the president.
Ruto said the ongoing corruption purge is stage-managed to derail is political aspirations, adding that it was predetermined for political reasons.
“You can’t fight corruption by stage-managing scandals and spreading propaganda against certain people. Corruption cannot be won through predetermined decision. What we are seeing is just pure politics,” Ruto said.
However, Uhuru has maintained that the war on corruption is not targeting any person or tribe but thieves of public money.
“We must win the war on corruption. The DCI and DPP are so far doing a great job. Those making noise in funerals should report me if they think I have stolen something. We cannot be cowed,” Uhuru said.
