President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Henry Mutyambai as the Inspector General of Police following the retirement of Joseph Boinnet.
Until his appointment, Mutyambai was the Assistant Director with the National Intelligence Service (NIS) and currently attached to the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC).
According to impeccable sources, Uhuru wanted to appoint the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), George Kinoti, as the IG but he changed after thorough consultations with National Super Alliance (NASA) leader, Raila Odinga.
Uhuru was the view that appointing Kinoti as the IG will make looters of the public money happy because he was dealing with them ruthlessly.
He consulted Raila Odinga who told him that he will make a big mistake by appointing Kinoti as IG.
“Raila advised him that it will be a total mess if he appoints Kinoti as IG.”
“He told him the office of the DCI needs a tough man like Kinoti who is able to confront even the high priests of corruption in Kenya,” the source said.
Uhuru is said to have notified Kinoti of Mutyambai’s appointment even before the announcement was made.
