The office of the DPP on Wednesday issued a warrant of arrest against Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa.

The MP reportedly shot and killed Brian Olunga, on August 9, at Chebukwabi Polling Station.

Olunga was a bodyguard to Brian Khaemba, who was Barasa’s opponent in the Kimilili parliamentary race.

DPP, Noordin Haji, has given directions to have Barasa apprehended, record a statement and have the relevant file availed to his office for appropriate action.

According to police in Bungoma, the MP is still at large and his phone is switched off.

Bungoma head of DCI Joseph Ondoro said an altercation broke out between the two prompting Khaemba to leave and head to his car.

“Barasa followed him in the company of four men and ordered them not to allow him(Khaemba) to leave the place but Khaemba’s driver Joshua Nasokho defied the order and ignited the vehicle,” said Ondoro.

It was then that Barasa drew a pistol and aimed at Khaemba’s aide Brian Olunga and shot him in the forehead killing him on the spot, a police report indicates.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Kimilili sub-county hospital.

Ondoro said they were looking for Barasa for grilling over the incident. “He has run away but we are looking for him. Let him surrender,” he said.
